Linn’s Stamp News editor quoted in NPR Marketplace report
SIDNEY, OH (12/05/2014) – The United States Postal Service issued two postage stamps today in honor of legendary NBA player Wilt Chamberlain.
For its report on the state of stamp sales in the U.S., NPR Marketplace contacted Linn’s Stamp News editor Chad Snee for some perspective on the controversies that sometimes emerge when an individual with a less-than-flawless personal record is tapped to be honored on a stamp. Chamberlain, for example, claimed to have slept with 20,000 women.
“The NBA star joins recent postal honorees like Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, who died of drug overdoses,” stated Marketplace reporter Tim Fitzsimons. “But that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve stamps, according to Chad Snee, editor of Linn’s Stamp News.”
“If the [Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee] had to weigh personal imperfections when determining whether or not someone could be honored with a postage stamp … we wouldn’t see too many people on our stamps anymore,” Snee said in the Marketplace story.
